Nagas Motorcycle Club Sri Racha
Martin and Pon, "mine hosts" of the Ace Cafe
Thailand, are also members of Nagas Motorcycle Club. This is a
motorcycle club which values and maintains its Thai roots; in
fact the name of the Club actually relates to the Naga, a
mythical sea serpent long believed to be a spiritual protector
of Thai speaking cultures throughout Asia and found in many
examples of Thai architecture, along roof gables and corners
from humble dwellings to the Royal Palace.
Our Club back patch is actually headed by a
top rocker with the Thai word for Naga (Phaiyanaak) in Thai
script, and our logo is a bar and shield flanked by a pair of
golden Naga, which we are very proud of and which the Thai's
are very appreciative of.
The Club is a touring club which clocks up
thousands of kilometres per year, and as such membership is
gained by riders with touring machines of a minimum 600cc.
Membership is gained entirely by an applicant attending
meetings with us, spending time with us, riding with us and
ultimately bonding with us.
The Club was formed in the seaside town of
Sri Racha, about 100 kilometres south of Bangkok on the east
coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Apart from being home to the now
famous Nagas MC, Sri Racha also boasts the famous spicy sauce
"nam phrik sii rachaa" and some of Thailand's best seafood,
especially oysters. Initial club meetings were held in members
homes and then local seafood restaurants but we now have an
"official" home: the Phaiyanaak Bar located in the market
square in the centre of Sri Racha town.
Originally formed by a nucleus of 5 local
ex-pats the Club has grown rapidly, both in size and
reputation, and is now recognised and welcomed at motorcycle
events throughout Thailand. With a membership from as far and
wide as Sweden, England, USA, Germany, Finland, Denmark,
Norway, Holland, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand, the Club
shows a comprehensive and united front wherever it goes. The
Club is primarily a family club of motorcyclists who want to
meet, ride and socialise with other motorcyclists. "Family" is
emphasised because there have been so few MC clubs in Thailand
which include wives and children: Nagas is a club with strong
family values and likes to have the wife on the pillion and the
kids in a support vehicle whenever and where-ever we tour. One
of the cornerstones of the Club foundation is that our wives
are as much a part of the club as each rider and as such make
up an important part of our being.
The reason for our "being" is very simple:
no-one else was doing what we want to do, which is tour
Thailand on large (mainly Harley-Davidson) touring machines
with our families and friends, for at minimum one long weekend
every month, and party!
